Pakistan continued their winning streak by winning the first test match of the series against New Zealand by 248 runs. Once again, a huge win for Pakistan & a lot for Pakistani supporters to smile. As Pakistan lost the series against Sri Lanka first, then loss of T20 & ODI series, Pakistani fans were questioning themselves that what's happening with us just before the World Cup. Saeed Ajmal got banned from bowling due to illegal bowling action just before the World Cup; that was hurting for Pakistan.
By the way, Pakistan played with the same strategy like they did against Aussies. Win the toss, Bat first, Set up a good total on the board and leave the rest on your bowlers.
Pakistan won the toss and Misbah opted to bat first. Pakistani openers, Mohammad Hafeez & Ahmed Shehzad, gave a superb start to their team. Mohammad Hafeez scored 96 runs. He was unhappy as He missed out his century by just four runs. As He was not be able to score against Aussies, He was being criticized by most of the people, He replied them with the bat. However, unfortunately, He was unlucky. Ahmed Shehzad played marvelous innings of 176 runs. Unfortunately, He got hit by a bouncer; His bat hit wicket. Later he went Pakistan for treatment, He might miss second and third test of the series.
Azhar Ali scored 87 runs. He was superb too, unluckily; He too missed his century. Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq also scored 100* and 102* respectively.
In reply of Pakistan's 566/3d, New Zealand just scored 262 runs. TWM Latham, Kiwis opener scored his Maiden Hundred in tests. Anderson and Watling scored 40 plus. Anderson missed out his Fifty by just two runs (*Sighs*) and Watling scored 42 runs, Rest of the team Failed to score big.
At that time, Pakistan had lead of 304 runs.
Pakistan batted once again; Misbah had the option to enforce them to bat again, But he did not. Mohammad Hafeez! The Professor, this time scored his hundred and went not out. Azhar Ali & Younis Khan did not play big innings. Pakistan set the target of 480 for New Zealand. They had lots of time to score and win, but that was not easy to even stay on the wicket against Pakistani bowlers, on day fifth pitch.
No one from New Zealand scored big except IS Sodhi, He scored 63 runs and was high scorer of the innings from New Zealand. New Zealand survived 70.3 overs.
Rahat Ali was the man of the match; He picked six wickets.
